Canon XL1 Manual

Download Canon XL1 Manual - Canon's search for the highest image quality has led to the most advanced digital camera system: the XL1s. It starts with an intelligent "open architecture" design, which allows you to customize each XL1s camcorder with the widest range of optional accessories. In addition, you can exercise extensive control over the picture and sound settings to tailor each recording to your preferences or that of your customers. Whether you consider yourself an advanced amateur, a professional videographer or a digital filmmaker, you can always configure the Canon XL1s digital camcorder according to your needs.

The XL1s maximizes the capacity of the DV format using a 3 CCD system that assigns a different CCD to each primary color (red, green, blue). A ray splitter prism precisely separates the light that passes through the lens into the individual components of the color, sending each of them to its own CCD. This process allows you to achieve amazing details with high precision color reproduction suitable for the demands of the highest quality professional production field: wide dynamic range, color noise under natural color resolution and overlap.

Canon has solved common dilemmas of recording using a signal processing technique known as pixel shift, which has been used in professional video cameras for many years. Lets you achieve a wider dynamic range, brighter video recordings in low-light situations, reduced vertical blur and sharper digital photos. The XL1s incorporates three CCD image sensors specifically designed to provide greater freedom when shooting in low-light situations. The size of each pixel is 72 microns squared, representing a surface 150% larger than the pixel size in comparable models. The result is approximately an average improvement of 14 dB in sensitivity.

By combining Canon's excellent optical quality with 3 CCDs, the XL1s delivers stunning color rendering and resolution that takes shape in some of the best images recorded outside of the television studio. In this mode, the video is recorded in a normal interlaced mode similar to that of conventional camcorders. Normal cinema mode is ideal for video recordings, providing natural and smooth images during playback on a TV or computer for video editing. On a single tape, you can capture up to 700 still images of excellent clarity (in SP mode). The photo mode makes the XL1s stand out from being able to capture high resolution still images. The camera records still images for about 6 seconds, in addition to recording sound for your verbal comments or narratives. You can search your still images on the tape recorded using the supplied remote control.

In this mode, the camcorder captures video according to an exclusive non-interlaced method, which allows the XL1s to record 25 frames or frames per second. Similar to a 35mm camera motor, the cine picture mode acts as if it were a digital drive motor. You will be able to capture every gesture and expression of your subject with spectacular clarity. It is perfect for those users who want to get high-quality still images of video recordings to make copies on paper, video for the network or even send emotionally charged images over the internet. The non-interlaced method, popularized by the Canon XL1s, has been highlighted by users for its cinematic appearance.
